Hairstyle Ideas for a Winter Wedding

No matter who you are, Bride, Bridesmaid, Mother of the Bride or wedding guest, everyone wants to look their best at the big day. From top to toe, outfits are planned for months beforehand, and when it comes to the wedding day hairstyle, no one wants to have a head of fly-aways, barely-there curls or frizzy hair-syndrome.

Unfortunately for those of us with hair that passes our ears, the weather can play a huge part in determining just how well behaved our hair will be on the day. So, no matter what your role at the wedding is, take a look at our top winter wedding hairstyle hints and grab a few ideas.

Short and Sweet:

So you've got short hair, and apparently you 'just don't care', right? Wrong! For those of you who have gone for the chop, do not fret! Think of having short hair as a blessing in disguise. Gone is the need to spend endless hours searching for that perfect updo, stressing over whether it will suit your dress or not.

When it comes to styling short hair, there's plenty of little 'tricks of the trade' that will make every style and cut look just right for the entire day! So here's a few of my favourite do's to give you a bit of inspiration.

  1. If your hair is just long enough to pull back into a pony tail, part your hair in the middle and do just that! Secure the pony with a translucent elastic, then, starting from underneath, wrap a piece of hair around the pony to hide the elastic, and pin into place. Loosen some strands of hair to give it that slightly messy look, and spray into place! Voila!

2. Add a bit of volume and texture to your shoulder length bob with some loose waves and a 'throw-it-across' side part. Heat rollers, or thicker curling irons tend to give the best 'I've got natural salt-water curls' look. Spray your hair with a salt water spray first, then part your hair to the side and throw your locks across. Once curled, the side part will give natural volume and height to your hair without having to add more product.

Flowers in Your Hair:

For some, this trend may be a bit too much, but never underestimate the beauty of having a small floral arrangement somewhere in those shining locks. Whether Bride, Bridesmaid or wedding guest, a pretty little pansy can really add a little extra 'something' to any sort of hairstyle. (Avoid the flower crowns if you are a guest, however. It could cause for some seriously awkward conversation if you happen to match the bridal party, and you aren't part of it!)

Hint numero uno: They don't have to be real! If you've opted for a rather simple, no fuss look, add a bit of spice with some floral hair clips. Not only do they look fantastic, but they won't wilt, they'll keep the 'do' extra secure, and best of all, you can wear them again.

They don't have to be big, it could be a tiny clip securely placed behind your ear, but think about how much nicer a floral adorned clip will look over a bunch of visible bobbypins!

Let Your Hair Hang Down:

The beauty of having long, luscious locks, means you have plenty of options when it comes to choosing a hairstyle. While the winter months can quite often be associated with wild and windy weather, don't forgo the chance to let your mermaid inspired hair hang long and loose on the big day.

Whether you opt for big bouncy curls or a half-up-half-down party pony, show off how healthy, fresh and shiny your hair is with these relaxed looks that will suit any type of dress, jumpsuit or skirt and top combination.

If, however, you're worried about eating more hair than food over the course of the day, why not add a subtle headband or flower crown to your look, keeping any annoying fly-aways away from your mouth, and giving your simple do a little extra bling and pazazz.
