A perfect prom dress needs a perfect prom hairstyle, and we are here to help you choose 5 celebrity-inspired prom hairstyles which are so in season and on-trend right now. Whether you have short hair, a bob, long hair, poker straight hair or curly hair, we have found a hairstyle to suit! From Lucy Hale to Selena Gomez; you will be channeling your inner star style in prom queen fashion!
5 Celeb Prom Hairstyle Ideas
Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale always looks feminine, glam and prom queen perfect. Replicate her prom style hair by running some texturizing mousse through your hair and twisting sections with your finger – you may want to use a curling iron in order to achieve longer lasting curls. Next, grab a section of hair on the side of your head and make a braid. After securing the braid, gather your hair (including the braid) and pull into a loose chignon at the nape of the neck. Let strands loose around your face so that it creates a pretty frame, and curl these with your curling iron. Finish with a little shine serum and hairspray.
Selena Gomez’s side swept waves are perfect for longer hair as well as thick hair. This is such a soft and glamorous look, perfect for shoulder-less or this season’s off-the-shoulder dresses. A red carpet staple, this hairstyle will be anything but out of place for prom night. Start by working in a volumising mousse while hair is still wet. Next use a large barrel brush to blow dry the hair in order to get extra volume and movement. Once hair is dry, take a large or medium barrel curling iron and start from the ear downwards from the front of the hair on both sides. Continue working around the head, alternating by curling one section clockwise and the other anti-clockwise and so on. Pin each curls with bobby pins as you go along for maximum staying power. Once the whole head is done, spritz lightly with hairspray and then take out the bobby pins and gently shake hair loose. Section your side part with a tail comb and gently flip hair to the side. Finish with more hairspray.
Ashley Benson is the queen of versatile hair! One week she is sporting glamorous long Hollywood curls, the next an edgy bob. This hairstyle if perfect for short to medium length hair and would look fab with a more modern, edgier dress. The woman behind the hair, Pretty Little Liars hairstylist Kim M. Ferry, talks us through how to create this chic & carefree beach wave hairstyle; Using a one inch wide curling iron, wrap two inch sections of hair vertically around the barrel and hold for 4-5 seconds before letting the hair fall down into place to cool in a hanging position. This angle helps to give that ‘just walked out of the beach’ look.
Zendaya is always looking beautifully elegant beyond her 20 years. The actress/singer’s pulled back hair with ornamental headband is a gorgeous look and alternative to the traditional prom hairstyle. Get this sultry look by curling hair and then using a decorative or statement headband, push hair back into place by placing the headband on the crown of the head. This look would be perfect using our Olga Berg Gold Filagree Leaf Metal Headband. For a full selection of headbands and fascinators, take a look at our millinery collection.
Taylor Swift’s romantic updo hairstyle is perfect for those with bangs. This braided upsdo style has an ultra chic Grecian goddess look and would suit long flowy gowns or dresses, grecian style gowns, and dresses with neck detail or embellishments. To get the look, apply a frizz taming serum to damp hair and blow dry evenly. Next, section off two 2-inch sections of hair on either side of your head in front of the ears and braid them. Next, gather the rest of your hair into a loose bun or chignon at the back of the neck and secure. Then take one braid and lift it and flip it over so that its resting along the top of your head like a headband and secure. Do the same with the other braid. Straighten your bands with an iron if necessary.
We hope these celebrity prom hairstyles have inspired you! Prom is easily one of the most memorable occasions of a young girls schooling life, so whether you opt for a sleek and timeless look or go for something more daring, make sure the prom hairstyle you choose is sure to make you feel gorgeous!
Prom Makeup Ideas
Now that you’ve got your perfect prom dress and found the right hairstyle to wear with it, all that’s left is the makeup! Makeup is the icing on the cake to any formal look. It should tie your whole look together and complement your outfit without taking over. For some handy prom makeup ideas, have a look at these 5 prom makeup styles inspired by celebrities which we’ve selected for that perfect prom queen look. From smokey eyes to this season’s glitter lip trend, we’ve got your prom makeup sorted!
5 Celebrity Prom Makeup Looks
Think glitter is only for the eyes? Think again! A new glitter lip trend has taken over Hollywood, with leading makeup artist behind the stars, Pat McGrath’s new Lust 004 Glitter Lip Kit. The lip kit features three different colours- Flesh, a nude sparkle; Vermillion Venom, a ruby red; and Bloodwine, a deep merlot. Each kit comes with a lipstick, gloss and a glitter pot and is currently being sold on Sephora.com. This trend is made for prom night! For those who can’t get their hands on the kit, you can recreate this look by purchasing a lipstick in any colour you desire, a cotton swab or lip brush, and fine, makeup-grade cosmetic glitter. Begin by applying your lipstick and next, take a cotton swab and roll onto your glitter pot making sure you get as much product as you can and then simply pat onto the lips. You may need a clear gloss to help things stick, so make sure to do a test run first! To make sure lips stay dazzling, make sure to drink through a straw! Pop some of your lipstick and glitter pot in your clutch for bathroom touch-ups if needed.
The New Smokey Eye
Emma Watson wore this gorgeous golden smokey eye on the red carpet with gold foil detail on the outer corners for a modern Cleopatra eye. Eye shadow was used to create a wing and achieve a mesmerizing cat eye look. Metallics are on trend this season, and this look would be perfect with a metallic or gold prom dress. You can create this look with metallic eye tattoos; first line the entire eye with black pencil eyeliner (one that smudges easily) and then take a black eyeshadow and smudge the liner up and out. Start out light and keep layering in order to avoid a clown-like appearance and to make sure shadow is applied evenly. To create a more even wing, try applying some makeup tape or scotch tape from the outer corner of the eye upward toward the end of your eyebrow and then apply your shadow. Simply remove tape when you’re done to reveal a perfect winged line. Next, take some gold eyeshadow (glitter is best!) and apply to the inner corner of the eyes. Finish with some gold body tattoos such as these ones from ASOS.com.au.
Natural Prom Queen
If your prom dress is dazzling or has a lot of sequins and embellishments, a natural prom makeup look is what will work best. Sasha Pieterse nails the natural look with warm tones on the eye, luminous skin and a nude lip. Apply warm shades to the eyes (bronze, brown & taupe works best for all skin-tones) and apply a shimmer highlight on the bridge of the nose, your cupids bow, brow bone and cheekbones for a naturally beautiful look. Finish with lashings of mascara and a nude lipstick with a slick of clear gloss.
For an all-over glow, try a berry or rose tinted lip & cheek balm and apply to the apples of the cheeks and on lips. This look is so fresh and prom makeup perfect, and would look amazing paired with a softer toned dress. Our pick of cheek & lip tint is the Lip & Cheek Stain from The Body Shop ($24.95) We recommend the shade Deep Berry to achieve this gorgeous Miranda Kerr glow.
PROM MAKEUP TIPS
– If you are wearing a statement prom dress, keep makeup classic as to avoid a disco ball look! Glitter gowns pair well with a dewy makeup base, bronze eye shadow and a nude lip. Think Sasha Pieterse’s natural makeup look.
– If you want a statement makeup look, stick to one – e.g a bold lip or metallic eyes – and keep the rest of the makeup neutral.
– Perfect your base! Always apply makeup to clean, lightly moisturized skin and be sure to use a makeup primer to make sure your makeup stays in place for the entirety of the night.
Arrive in Style
Prom night is all about style! The dress, the makeup, the hair and shoes – every little detail ensures that your night is one to remember. So why not arrive in style?
Many prom goers opt for renting a limo; it’s exciting, it’s stylish and it’s sure to make a grand entrance. But how about some of these other options? We have compiled 5 ways to arrive in style to your prom night and make it one to remember (and boast to your friends & classmates about for weeks to come!)
5 Ways to Arrive in Style to Prom Night
1. Luxury car
For something a little bit more luxurious than a limousine, a luxury car is the ultimate transport to arrive in style! Many luxury car rental companies rent out luxury cars such as Bentley’s and Ferrari’s for formal events, including prom night. You can go vintage or modern with a sports car – it’s up to you!
2. Horse & Carriage
You are sure to make an entrance when you and your prom date arrive in a horse-drawn carriage! Feel like Cinderella for the night and opt for this special chauffeured experience fit for a prom queen! The great part about this option is, many horse & carriage rentals offer carriages which can seat up to 12 adults comfortably so this could be the perfect option for a group who want an exciting alternative to the traditional limousine.
3. Double Decker Bus
Take party bus to a whole new level with a double decker bus to arrive in style! Be the envy of your school year and opt for this unique experience. Grab a whole group of your friends – or your entire class! – and rise a vintage London style double decker. For something a little more subdued, renting a regular passenger bus or coach can be just as fun!
4. Vintage Tractor
Forget a convertible! Hire a vintage tractor or pick-up truck and make prom arrival history! This is such a fun option, and you can go all out and have the tractor decorated for an awesome experience. This would be great for rural receptions, but even if your prom night is to be held in the big city it would still be a jaw-dropping experience and sure to turn heads!
If you want something a little bit more fun and adrenaline-packed, why not arrive in style on two wheels?! Ride on the back of your prom date’s Vespa or tandem bike for a wonderful memory to look back on. A vintage Vespa scooter is the perfect way to compliment your high school formal or prom night with a mix of style and class!
Renting transport for your prom night or formal event is an exciting way to make the occasion even more memorable, and one to share with your friends for years to come. Transport rental companies exist in every major city in Australia, so be sure to do your research online and find the best hire company which will suit you and your date or friends’ needs. Choose only reputable companies that have a good safety record and professionalism.
Here are 10 great tips to keep in mind when you and your teen are shopping for prom transportation, some from the National Limo Association, with a few more from the Shuttle Express transportation website.
Make sure the company is registered, licensed with the state, and has the proper insurance. Shuttle Express is fully registered and licensed, insured with five times the amount required by law, and compliant in all areas of safety. We also have Drive-Cam units in every vehicle that ensure the safety of the guests and driver. Our efforts are worth it–our guests enjoy safe rides, and we have earned the top safety award in our national insurance group for six years running!
Get the vehicle you want!
Ensure the vehicle you choose has the space and features you want, preferably with one or two extra seats. Do not exceed the max capacity, because that will mean an uncomfortable night. If you have a large group, check out our larger “party” coach that seats 12-15 friends! Economical, comfortable, and fun.
Get the total price.
Compare apples to apples so you aren’t surprised when you get the final bill. Ask if a fuel surcharge, service fees, and gratuity are included, or are they telling you just the base price. Our Shuttle Express sales team will make sure you have all the facts.
Ask about extras.
Do you want ice and soft drinks, a preferred route, or additional stops? We’ll give you all the options, then we will help you decide on the details.
Set some ground rules.
Parents, you have the right to tell the chauffeured transportation company what will and will not be tolerated in the vehicle. For example, you can ask that the chauffeur keep the privacy screen down for the entire ride. If any of your rules are broken, the chauffeur can turn the car around and bring your kids home.
Give the transportation company a curfew.
That’s right, the chauffeur will abide by any rules you set, and will make sure to pick up and drop off your kids at a designated hour. This is a great way to ensure your kids make it home on time–no excuses.
Tell your kids to forget about bringing alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs on board the vehicle.
They will end up missing their own prom! Shuttle Express does not allow any alcohol in vehicles with minor guests who are not accompanied by adults.
Allow time to take lots of photographs.
You’re definitely going want some photos, so plan for everyone to meet at one location. Make sure the transportation company and the chauffeur have the address and directions. This will eliminate wasting time that can be used for taking pictures and having fun. Ask the chauffeur to position the vehicle to be a part of your teen’s pictures.
Extend the night.
Don’t forget that there almost always is a post-prom party. Remember to book the transportation for a few extra hours to ensure your teen has time to enjoy all the events.
Remember to sit back and relax.
A reputable company like Shuttle Express hires chauffeurs with proper training and licensing. These chauffeurs are used to transporting excited passengers all day long, so they know how to keep things under control. So, relax!
