What to Wear to a Spring Wedding: Guest Outfit Ideas

It’s that time of the year again when you find yourself surrounded by several wedding invitations from family, friends, co-workers, and what feels like half of the people you know! Yes, spring season is officially in full force! If you’re not a part of the bridal party, Spring wedding outfits can be difficult to decide on since there are so many options available with the weather constantly transitioning. Spring is wonderful but tricky: the day starts off warm enough to wear a wrap mini dress, then hours later it’s freezing again.

Yet spring, the time of rebirth and renewal, remains as the most popular choice for weddings. With the strong likelihood of attending wedding after wedding this season, it’s important to plan ahead and make sure all your wedding guest outfits are sorted out. Even if the dress code is clearly stated on the invitation, finding the proper outfit can be a stressful and time-consuming task. We’re always here to help, so we’ve come up with some suggestions and tips for finding the perfect wedding guest outfits. Whether the Spring wedding you attend takes place on a stylish rooftop hotel or a lovely garden, we’ll make sure you have something chic and appropriate to wear!

Setting: Morning church wedding

Attending a ceremony in any religious space means following a more modest and respectable dress code. This doesn’t mean that you have to show up in a frumpy shapeless dress or be totally covered up, but always remember to steer clear of low-cut necklines and very short hemlines.

While you should definitely avoid bodycon mini dresses, not all mini dresses would be deemed inappropriate to wear! Opt for a light-coloured lace mini with a fit and flare silhouette or a shift mini dress with sheer sleeves and ruffle accents. The basic rule of thumb for more traditional ceremonies is to balance short hemlines with higher necklines or longer sleeves.

Sheer midi dresses with slip linings are a great way to incorporate an understatedly sexy vibe to your church outfit. They’re flirty and feminine while staying modest and respectable. We suggest wearing a dreamy floral print dress with a ruffled hem or a stunning pink crochet dress with sheer flared sleeves. Keep in mind that church weddings are all about looking prim and proper, so keep your accessories minimal and polished with a pair of gold drop earrings and nude heels.

Setting: Mid-afternoon garden nuptials

What’s the best outfit to wear amidst gorgeous gardens and flowers in full bloom? Florals, of course! We know Miranda Priestly didn’t consider them at all groundbreaking, but there’s no better time to bust out all your pretty floral prints than an outdoor spring wedding.

Ardency Maxi Dress by Talulah and Tash Jumpsuit by Talulah. Available to hire at GlamCorner.

If you want something different from the usual bold and vibrant floral print dresses, why don’t you go for a light blue ruffled maxi dress with baby floral embroidery or a pretty gardenia print jumpsuit with ruffled cap sleeves? Subdued floral prints are a great way to look festive for spring weddings while jumpsuits are always a chic alternative to dresses.

Dalliance Midi Dress by Talulah and Vineyard Bustier Midi by Pasduchas. Available to hire at GlamCorner.

If you’re not feeling the floral look, why don’t you consider a flirty polka dot wrap dress with an asymmetric hem? Wrap dresses are universally flattering and look great with wedge heels, which are stylish and comfortable to walk around in (even on grass!) Another style to consider is an elegant leaf print midi dress with a bustier-style bodice that will look perfect with your picture-perfect surroundings. Style it with a raffia clutch for an effortless tropical chic look.

Setting: Sunset rooftop ceremony

With panoramic views of skyscrapers from all angles and unforgettably vivid sunsets, sunset rooftop ceremonies are nothing short of amazing. While the atmosphere tends to be more exciting and lively as the sun goes down and the fun evening begins, note that the temperatures will also drop so it’s always a good idea to bring a light jacket or a wrap!

3D Floral Mesh Cape Jumpsuit by Self Portrait and Caspian One-Shoulder Jumpsuit by Rebecca Vallance. Available to hire at GlamCorner.

The dress code for this can be best described as cocktail attire, so why not go for something a little bit different and try a chic cape jumpsuit with slim leg pants or a standout one-shoulder jumpsuit with statement ruffles? Jumpsuits are always a great substitute for dresses and are a perfect combination of formal and playful.

After the wedding, it’s time for the evening festivities to begin! For a look that you can wear from the ceremony to a night of drinking and dancing, we suggest trying a sexy navy lace midi dress with a figure-hugging silhouette or a racy slip midi dress with a thigh-high split. Slip dresses are simple yet make such a striking impact with their clean lines and unexpected details. Make sure to glam up your minimalist look with some fun statement earrings and a box clutch with an optional chain strap so you can go hands free on the dance floor!
