Prada, established in Milan in 1913 by Mario Prada as a luxury leather-goods company, initially had limited impact in the fashion world until Miuccia Prada assumed control of her grandfather's business in 1978. It was under her leadership that the brand experienced significant success. One of her notable achievements was the introduction of a black nylon backpack adorned with a distinctive triangular silver label. Soon, her designs for shoes and handbags garnered a devoted following among fashion-conscious consumers across Europe, America, and Japan.

Miuccia Prada, along with her husband and business partner Patrizio Bertelli, maintains meticulous oversight of the company's operations. In 1989, Prada expanded into ready-to-wear fashion and later launched the slightly more affordable Miu Miu line in 1992. Prada Sport, recognized for its iconic red line, became highly recognized within certain circles, much like Nike's swoosh symbol. Collaborating with architect Rem Koolhaas, Prada established a series of renowned shops and boutiques in Paris, New York, and San Francisco. In the late 1990s, Prada engaged in complex ownership maneuvers, acquiring and divesting stakes in companies such as Gucci and Fendi. Additionally, in 2000, they formed a partnership with Azzedine Alaïa.
